Who handled 558,000 tons of steel last year?
Smooth metal shipments to and from the UK east coast
You can find the Immingham terminal on the UK’s East coast. Immingham is the largest port (per tonnage) in the UK, with direct access to main motorways and deep-sea facilities.
As well as this, there are multiple on-site rail connections, making transport and handling of heavy, complex cargo seamless and easy. The rail connection is directly linked to a dedicated steel warehouse, which is equipped with 20 x 40 tonne magnet cranes for handling of steel coils and an additional 120 tonne gantry crane for external steel handling. The FLTs range from 5 to 42 tons and there is terminal access around the clock, 7 days a week.
More than just Ro-Ro
At the port, there is more on offer than just the ro-ro services you would expect. DFDS can also discharge steel through vessels, broadening the reach and increasing the speed of our customers’ shipments.

The steel operation
We have 32 DFDS colleagues working with all things steel-related at the port. It is very experienced team and it would be hard to come up with a metals challenge that they could not meet. In 2018, they handled more than 558,000 tons of steel, including coils, billets, alloy, slabs, and sections.
